Our MLk day was spent at the children's museum. After climbing, painting, and building to her little heart's content, Jane settled herself in front of a baby girl belonging to the mother sitting next to me. Jane began to sweetly coo and tickle and babble to the 9-ish month old. I beamed at jane for her gentle manners and asked the mother to excuse my little girl for invading her baby's personal space, as she was preparing to become a big sister. The woman asked me if I felt Jane was ready for the big change. I opened my mouth to tell her that, Yes! I think she'll be the perfect big sister, when Jane stuck out a slobbery tongue and licked the baby from her chin to her forehead, straight up the middle of her tiny face. I gasped in embarrassment and grabbed my offending offspring! Lucky for me, the wee victim looked un-phased and her mother just laughed hysterically. But good heavens! Where would Jane get an idea like that? We don't even have pets.
And, by the way, the little sibling Jane will apparently be LICKING in a few short months will be female in variety. That's what we do best, after all!

That is hilarious!! I really wonder what kids think some times. Luckily the mom didn't care too much. Too funny!
oooo congrats!!!!! yay for girlies!
jane is a character, love it.
kids keep us humble. You've heard Star and Lee's "Can I have a lick?" story?
Here are some girl names that rhyme with Kate, Caleb, Malan, and Jane:
Grace, Igraine, Elaine, Mireille, Haley, Despain, Rainey, Lacey (bleh on those last two), Ava, Maisie, Yelena, etc.
But the names I wish I could have used, without having more children, are: Mercy, Miranda (Mia), and Joanna (Joey). You may have them. Or any other name you like, I won't be using them.
OOps! that last comment was me.
Babies sometimes just look so delicious! Did you ask Jane how she tasted?
What a funny story and big news?! Well congratulations!
Jane sounds like quite the funny person. And if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Happy for you and another girl.
that's great! thanks for the good laugh! Another girl will be fun!
There was a boy in our primary class who came up and slapped Cindy's butt with his mom present. His mom informed us that the boy learned that from watching his dad do it to her. Perhaps Jane is getting the face licking from watching Caleb do it to you (or vice versa)?
Sometimes don't you just wish you could watch the rerun? Too funny!
Congrats on girl number three! Won't teenage years be fun! I hope you're still bloggin' then!
I posted a lovely comment, but blogger was down - so here's another try ...
You love those stealthy, embedded announcements, don't you? Just be so glad it was a lick and not a mark-leaving bite. Please don't name your daughter Igraine. You guys make such cute and great little girls. Can't wait to meet this one!
Yay! Another adorable Wilson girl. I think Heavenly Father is balancing things out for you, Kate. After all those years with the McKay boys. Jane cracks me up. At least she didn't head bonk her.
That has been the impulse of a couple of my children with infants! Girls naughty impulses tend to be less damaging.
oops that was me, Sarah
HA HA HA! I think I remember Jane having licked others in the past...or maybe it was just sticking her tongue in Caleb's mouth instead of merely kissing him.
YAY for another girl!
oh, the memories our children create for us. congrats on #3, you guys must do ladies right at your place, what a lucky, lucky family!
Love girls. I don't know what we would do with a boy at our house. Congrats.
and- that is the funniest story.
Very cute. You inspired me to put my own silly kid moment up on my blog.
eewwwhhh! kidding...I agree it was better than a bite.
