Instead, I informed Caleb I was going away for a while, whereupon I shut myself in my room, shut off the lights, hid in my blankets, and watched the sun going down out my bedroom window.
Caleb knocked softly and asked, "You okay, Babe?"
I said, "I'm away!"
While I pondered momly things I heard the crying stop, the cooking of dinner begin, and rounds of "Do as I'm doing" being shouted by Jane in the kitchen.
After a while I heard Jane coming up the stairs.
And Caleb saying "Nope, Janey, come down. Mom's away for a while."
Then Jane saying "I want my Mama."
So I sheepishly got up to let her in, and found this waiting:
Red pepper chicken and bacon salad with peas, corn, cheddar, sunflower seeds, garlic croƻtons, and buttermilk ranch. Yum.I ate in bed.
Caleb brought his up to join me.
And Jane ate off my plate while sticking pennies from her penny can to my forehead and giggling her face off.
Then I went in to see Malan who had fallen asleep hiding under her blankets. We must be related.
We snuggled, and it was sweet.
Like my life.
Nothing like a little melt down to boost your spirits.
Nothing like my good man and my sweet girls.

We all need a little "away" time every now and then.
Atta boy Caleb. I'm proud to say I helped raise him :)
glad you took a mommy time-out. we all need those. caleb gets a gold star for handling it well. :)
miss you guys.
Ah yes. We must be pregnant. And moms. I feel so great after the great bawl of January 31st. It's so nice to have good husbands to make us feel better.
None of my kids ever let me forget my "away time" when I hid out in my freezing unfinished remodel until dad found me huddled under blankets crying...or when I drove my car away to the field next to mom and dad's to hide out for awhile...darn hormones...double darn pregnancy hormones! I love good parents, husbands and kids and their tender notes to boost us back up!
I used to play "Rumplestiltskin" when I had all I could take. The boys might remember the "My name is not Mom, when you guess my new name, I will come out of the bathroom." Ahh, bubblebath and a good book. You have to pick a name like "jbrokfrbitz" so they cannot possibly guess it in this lifetime-oops, guess I need to pick another new name....
Oh!!! I had a few tears!!! (happens more and more!) The best thing in life is a husband who is sweet and understands! It's wonderful to have time away and yet so glorious when you get back together! I loved your story!!!!
Sorry you had a bad day.
Can I have the recipe for that yummy looking salad?
Oh I love that they pined for you. That's all we need to know right? What an awesome husband. And nice that you are so aware of what you need. It's so healthy to do that every once and a while!!
what a darling man you are married to. I hear you on having some time just to be, I'll have to start callng it my away time- I like that.
Awww. So sweet. And that looks super-yummy. Did Caleb make that all by himself? I want the recipe too!
I changed my blog address

So cute, Kate. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to "be away" sometimes. In fact, after three weeks of taking care of my siblings, I might have to "be away" for quite some time.
I have those days. Recently I needed a break and I informed everyone not to even knock on my door for awhile.
Two hours later, I heard a timid knock and Andrew came in. I reminded him that I was "away", but I melted when he said, "But mommy, I just love you and I want to be with you."
Break over. Time for snuggles.
So sweet, I just love what a darling mom you are, and that you have such a loving husband! I'm so happy that there will soon be another little Wilson joining us, how wonderful! Big hugs from me!!!
I remember the Sunday in Novato when I had to get away. Your father took over and I got into the car and drove and drove and drove trying to find a place where I could be alone, but I couldn't find any place without people, so I just turned around and went home. I should have tried a blanket.
You are a dear! Such a sweet momma! Thank goodness for a good husband and sweet kids!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who needs time! Seems like the only place I can take it lately is in the bathroom!
