Table Manners

Jane had the audacity to loudly make the following demand at dinner this evening:

"Someone give me some salad!"

Which of course caused Caleb and me to laugh our faces off.

Which did not please Jane.
Which caused us to laugh harder.

Which prompted Jane to shout,"No laughing!!" repeatedly. Interspersed with such statements as, "I didn't say laughing, I said salad!" and "This is not a joke!"
Which caused such loud and raucous laughter from the rest of us Jane was sure we couldn't hear her correctly.

So she cupped her hand to her mouth and repeated, much more loudly than before, "I said NO LAUGHING!"
Frustrated that her seemingly reasonable requests were being ignored, Jane raised her fork in warning. . .
Then proceeded to show her displeasure at the situation by banging her plate loudly until we all saw reason, coaxed a polite salad request from her, and went on with the meal.
 Olivia was taking mental notes.

Hi, Just discovered your blog.
this scene sounds familiar...but on the plus side at least it wasn't in public and it was for salad!

Hearty LOL... a head shaking, hehehe, belly laugh, I tell ya. The picture of Ms. J and her open mouth? Heeelarious... and I've never even met her. "until we all saw reason"... so funny!

I read this twice and don't be surprised if I come back to it later for another giggle.

The picture of Ms. O is out loud funny... you tell a killer story!!

At least she is eating salad!

Sounds like the time I told everyone to go to their rooms when I was a little younger than Miss J. What's a girl to do when her brothers told her there was chopped liver in her milk? It was not a laughing matter.

Also-love the new header, etc!

Olivia needs a booster--except it looks so cute for her to peer over the tray like that.
Your kids must be so used to the camera they don't even cheese any more. Makes for great photo-essays.
Love the glimpses into your life--we miss you all.

It's so great you captured the moment, I wish my kids felt as strongly about their greens!
Oh how I love your blog, and your new template is wonderful! Wherever did you find it?

Ha ha!! I love the rude demand for such a wholesome thing. And, whoa, don't you think she's looking a lot more like Malan these days? And like you as a kid? Love the peering Olivia.

edith said...

She does look like Malan, and also, surprisingly, like Emma. Surprisingly because I never saw that resemblance before.
How come your house always looks so beautiful? I need to have you either decorate my house, or take my photos.

MY kids would NEVER ask for salad so at least you have that one down. Even if it wasn't the way you would have liked. On another note. I like the new set up but now I can't find the links to all the other "friends" blogs you used to have and I never bothered to keep cause I always just used your links. Where did you put them?

yeah I did a double take on her first pic and then again on the fourth. I thought it was Em or you and THEN realized it was Jane. Seems to be doing a bit of a change. Love the blog, but miss the great photo you had on the top with the boots. I like that you change it up though. Miss you too much!
