Childhood Rite of Passage

I think there comes a time in every child's life where the little entrepreneur inside prompts a business venture of some sort. I remember my mother letting me set up a table at the end of our driveway to sell all my unwanted toys. Unfortunately, I had labeled the (exorbitant) prices across the front of each toy in permanent marker, so I didn't get many takers.

I think the girls' lemonade stand was slightly more elegant: a vintage table cloth, dainty chairs, hand made signs, and an umbrella to keep their small stand shaded.

Lemonade and a sugar cookie for just 25 cents. Quite a bargain!
Of course they lured in customers by openly sampling the product themselves.
 Waiting, waiting.
I may have bribed a neighbor or two, but once there was a crowd, others started to come by.

They did pretty well for themselves! Nice to see a childhood dream realized every once in a while.

That's so great! I love lemonade stands. That looks like a lovely neighborhood, Kate. My first peek down the street. Good job setting up shop, girlies.

A couple girls in my neighborhood had set up a stand last Sunday. Poor girls. I bet they didn't have any takers.

So sweet. Some little boys in our neighborhood sold popsicles earlier this summer and we bought a few (thanks to a timely text from their dad ;)

Kate, I love your girls. I giggled when you said you scribbled all over your wares. Im laughing again just typing that out!

Pretty table cloth, great pictures of a really cool moment in childhood. I never did this, but often thought about it as a child.

Love that your girls wear such pretty dresses.

you wrote the prices on your toys??!! that is so awesome. I love that your mom was so hands-off and let you do stuff on your own like that. I totally did the lemonade stand and various other money-making ventures. The Songer kids were kinda known as the salesmen of the neighborhood, hate to say. I would have been their best customer! Sounds delicious. But like they say in business - location, location, location.

Way to support those business instincts! Love those girls.

The price IS right! I couldn't bring myself to pay $1 for a little cup of lemonade at the Farmer's Market last weekend. I mean, really!
And this after I made a commitment to always buy from lemonade stands a few years back.
So cool to have those memories so beautifully preserved.

I love how all the pictures are technicolor except for one black and white: "waiting, waiting...."
