The Road Home

Our view (out the widow of the car) during our 1,899 mile drive home:

Goodbye Utah, I love you-
Hello Wyoming, nice sky you have there-

Nice corn, Nebraska-
Lovely Iowa, you may have gotten yourself into my heart-
Kicking up dust just south of Chicago-
 Kid friendly clouds in Indiana-
Hi Ohio, you cute little farmers-
What's this? Rain and traffic? We must be close to home.
And hello there, Pittsburgh. You're not quite as easy on the eyes as the rest of the
vast fertile nation we just crossed, but we like you anyway.
I had really psyched myself up for a rough ride with four kids and a road trip like this, but I tell you what, we had a wonderful time. The girls were abnormally congenial, Emme pretty much just sucked on her toes for 30 hours, and Caleb and I got to chat each other up for four days.
Pretty flippin awesome.

And pretty good to be home.

those windmills are right by where I am from, Kate. It's like we're strangers in the night...errrr...day...err...without the romantic connotations. love all of these pictures, they are so pretty. what a wonderful road trip it sounds to be.

Today, Ellie asked where Jane was. And Chloe said she missed Malan. And I miss you too. Glad your long drive went well. Hope you're happy back in your very own home with real beds and stuff.

1,899 miles... oh my. I can't even imagine that distance... even less with 4 kids in the car too.
I'm glad they were all well behaved.
Beautiful photos, it makes me want to roadtrip the States even more.

Wow! This is beyond amazing, cool and beautiful. It's our dream to one day drive across the nation, up the nation and down the nation and see all of this.
Those corn fields. That rain, and your skyline of your now-home town.

You captured so much along the way. The picture of the little white farm house, the Bel Air and thaaaaaaat propane tank! It made me teary for my farm house in a Valley we used to know so well. Thank you. Thank you for this beauty!

Isn't it fabulous to talk on a road trip vs constant music? I surely love it. Love. Love.

It was so fun to hang out with your family for an afternoon. And good to remember I like you in person as much as I like you through the world of blogging.
I'm glad your trip home was pleasant and beautiful and full of tasty toes.

That is so unfair! Our kids are awful in the car at that age. They still aren't nice if they are tired or hungry.
I bet your kids were relieved to be back to normal again after all the running drama of being in the midst of the horde of cousins. Meri has asked me three or four times when you will move back here. She just can't take "I don't know" for an answer.

Wow, I am impressed you made the trip! That is quite the accomplishment with all the kiddo's. I am sure it was so worth it when you were able to be with family. Thanks Kate, I have to say I admire your many talents as well.

Wow - that was a cool photo essay. I took the trip with you but it was somehow easier to do in 30 seconds laying on my bed than the 30 hours. But I'm glad it went well. It's always good to start with low expectations :-)
