I Have my Mind to Think About

I haven't read more than one book a year since my first child was born.

This is because when I read, I ignore my children for very extended periods of time.
Breakfast/lunch go unmade, copious amounts of PBS kids get watched.
It is sad.

But lately I've felt I'm actually getting dumber. Preventative action had to be taken.
I joined a book club. One where you have to actually read the books.
Flippin awesome? You betcha.

We just finished our first book club, and I loved the whole process. The book (on the beach) was great, the food delicious, the conversation intelligent and motivating.

And best of all, apparently I now have a child old enough (and nice enough) to take over motherly duties when I fail to remove myself from reading in bed for half a day.

Dear Malan, the pancakes you delivered to my room were scrumptious. IOU date night babysitting for a year when you have kids. Love, Mom.

Way to go, Malan! Way to go Kate for teaching Malan to make pancakes. I am impressed. And I have really loved everything I've read that Nevil Shute wrote.

Glad to hear that you got some time to yourself, Kate! It's good for kids to fend for themselves from time to time. I am in two book groups and I like having "homework". Good excuse to do something I love! Miss you guys!
