No major events this week-just a few moments of greatness I stumbled upon:
That is one well-prepared student. (I told you the schools here are rough.)
Jane getting lost in a book. She's just started to discover reading for the great escape that it is. I don't know how to describe how that makes me feel, except to say that it's like watching her find that her world has suddenly expanded exponentially. Kind of a deep moment for me.
(No, she's not reading upside down. We've just loved the cover off this book and it's on the wrong way.)
And here is Olivia, introducing us to her latest persona,
"Fashion Carol."
Oh, Fashion Carol. Why are you so funny?
As for the grown ups around here, Caleb has been putting in 100 plus hour weeks in trauma surgery at the med (county hospital) this month. The long hours don't wear on him as much as does the harsh dose of reality in our very violent city.
Thus, humorous moments are much appreciated. Like the recovering patient, a little looped out on meds, who helped Caleb realize why he went to medical school:
"Hey doc!"
Caleb: "Yes?"
"Ya got clean hands?"
Caleb: "Uh, yeah?"
"Then get over here and scratch my a**!"
So rewarding.
And I am finding that I can do hard things. Like mow lawns, install ceiling fans, fix garbage disposals, you know, do all the stuff, and try to be a nice person (try) without Caleb's support. Sometimes the kids are being extra-special and I think I start to feel a head-butt coming on, but then something gives. Caleb gets a day off, or the girls decide I need a "mommy spa" and they give me the full treatment. And we keep on going. I'm impressed by what we can do when we have to. Props to those of you out there who have flown solo. You are strong and you inspire me.
And that's all that's worth a mention for now.
