It's been 10 years since this happened:
We look like high schoolers. We practically were. Considering my naivete/youth/inexperience/pigheadedness, I am pretty darn boggled (humbled, grateful) at what a good decision it was to go and do that.
Along with many good things, our marriage is also work. There is negotiating and communicating and giving and taking and apologizing and forgiving. A lot of trying to be a little less selfish. A bunch of trying to do better and to be better and to take better care of one another.
But there is solidarity, and humor, and this really great kind of awestruck feeling when we look at the four little humans we made.
And there is also a deep, abiding, enduring commitment, which feels a lot like love (it is) and feels a lot like joy. It is.
My wonderful Grandma Hale, whose marriage I admired very much, used to say, "When two strong rivers come together, there's bound to be turbulence." I like thinking of Caleb and myself as strong rivers. It suggests we're headed somewhere great, and we are.
I am of the opinion that the more you work for something, the more valuable it becomes to you.
Here's to many more years of work, and all the other good stuff.

Happy Anniversary! We're so glad the Wilson clan came to be. I've loved the few times we've been able to spend some quality time with your family. Pretty wonderful people you've got there! Looking forward to seeing you this summer!

You make the swim upstream of marriage look graceful and elegant. Carry on!
a couple of babies is right! you guys are cute little babies in that wedding picture. I love your writing. You say things so well that all readers know just what you mean. What a lovely write-up on your feelings of marriage. We love you two! You did well. So happy this union took place. The pair of you are a lot of fun and you make really cool humans. It was fun hanging out with you tonight.
Babies indeed. Yes, for such young people, picking an eternal companion is quite a big deal. So grateful for tender mercies in the form of an awesome spouse! You two did well. I've always been a fan of you two together.
You know, you're a great friend. Thanks Kate.
I'm nearly a week late now, but, Happy Anniversary! You two are so wonderful together - I'm so glad we got to spend some time getting to know you both. You two, together, show a strength and solidarity that is seldom seen in the world today. I only wish we still had the daily opportunity to drop in and crash on your couch or in the backyard (when the weather permits) as we miss you dearly.
I wish you both all the best through all the trials of life (and a profession in the medical community!) and for the years to continue to get better as you continually grow in your love and mutual strength. We love you! Be well!
Hey! We were a February wedding as well! The 17th. So, happy anniversary to all of us. :) Glad you guys are doing well. Hope you're hanging in there during the years that are residency. Only a year and a half left for us and then on to fellowship! Seems like it never ends, doesn't it? :)
Happy Anniversary, Friend! We just hit 10 too.
What a beautiful photo! You look like a queen!
