We spent the last week in D.C. with the kids. What a great trip.
Malan got to run wild with her cousin
Willa. We stayed up playing games all night with the cousins and
Katie and Joey. We visited historic old towns, played tennis, and I got to shop at the outlets with
Katie and my fashion savvy niece
Bronwen. We loved our day in D.C. visiting monuments, memorials, and museums with our girls who were major troopers and didn't fuss a bit as we strolled them around all day. Here are just a few pics of our favorite activities.
I'd visited the
Lincoln Monument when I was 14, but this time it was really a special event. The 2
nd inaugural address (engraved on wall in right-hand gallery) is just neat.
The WWII memorial is new since I last visited the capitol city. It was incredible. The best part for me was that the water noise from all the fountains and falls blocked out all other sound, so we were just alone with our thoughts and feelings. An elderly man sat wearing his platoon hat, watching people's reactions. A phrase on the Korean War memorial summed it up: freedom is not free.

"Here we mark the price of freedom"—each of the 4048 gold stars represents approximately 100 Americans who died during the war. If you haven't experienced this monument yet, put it on your short list. We were so moved by it.

We tubed down the Potomac with all my cousins, my sibs Mike & Lisa and Joey & Katie, and my mom and dad. Mostly it was a three hour water fight-tube train-sun bathing-laugh fest.

My sisters-in law: Katie and Lisa. Katie is 3 months pregnant, hooray! Ah, vacation. Now back to real life.
