Making Things Grow

Every summer morning when I was growing up, we had to weed a row in our vegetable garden or flower beds. Some of my siblings hated it, but I loved it. I still love everything about gardening and wish I could devote time to it every day. I love: the cool moist summer morning air, the feel and smell of soil, pulling out weeds, sitting in the yard on a swing after dinner and soaking in the smells and sights, and just the yummy goodness of making things grow. It's so wholesome and simple and beautiful. And there is nothing more delicious than fresh peas or raspberries from the garden!

Caleb and I have had a vegetable garden, planted flowers, and taken care of the apple orchard every year since we got married (four years ago.) Our girls have joined us in planting and harvesting. They love helping our gardens grow! But alas, we're moving in just over 2 months and won't be here for the harvest. So this time of year when I'd be buying vegetable seeds and annuals (and splurging for a few perennials) I'm Stuck just thinking about my future garden/yard that I want someday. And wondering . . .what are you planting?

I love gardening as well, but I'm only just learning to do it. When I got married and moved to Liberty, I liked watching Kyle work in the garden, but I didn't want to get my hands dirty (and I was afraid I would plant things wrong). Now living in the desert, I decided to give it a try and I absolutely love it. Everything grows here, so there isn't much room for failure. The last flowers I planted were Zinnias, so cute! I LOVE Hibiscus flowers and daisies too. We also planted some fruit trees: orange, lime and plum. We of course have lots of palm trees, which I'm always surprised at the variety of different palms: pony-tail,queen,date,sago. We have our kids in charge of separate areas in the yard and it's really neat to see them doing things I never did as a kid.

I live in a town home, so I can't really do a garden, however, a good friend and I are going to do her garden together. Raspberries and peas are my favorites too.

Did I miss where you guys are going?! Have you decided?

So sad you can't harvest the garden this year!...Darrell and I decided to rent a plot of land--even though we have to drive to get to our garden we're excited to finally have our "own" garden this summer!
Do you have any pointers for us?

You're making me so jealous! I have the worst black thumb in the universe. I can't even make a chia pet grow! So sad...maybe someday we can be neighbors and you can lend me your wisdom!
