Which of the following Jane did on her first day in primary?
a) Shouted "I don't LIKE you and I don't like your CHAIR!" at the demure little blond girl sitting next to her.
b) Attempted to steal the sharing time ornaments from each of the 7 volunteers' hiding places and re-hide them herself.
c) Sang "I am a Child of God," at top volume during every song, none of which was actually "I am Child of God."
d) While her mother was distracted teaching sharing time, sneaked up to the podium and shouted "Doh!" or breathed heavily into the microphone no less than 5 times.
e) Upon being ushered back to her seat after one such podium sneak, and finding "her" chair occupied, physically "helped" the child off the seat using the "push as hard as you can" method, while exclaiming, "MYYYY CHAAAAIR!!!"
f) Grabbed the birthday goodie bag out of the hands of the birthday child during the final phrases of the birthday song, tucked it like a football, and crouched over it in a death grip in front of her seat.
g) At which point she was "lovingly" removed to the hall by her mother for a little regrouping.
h) When asked by her father how her first day went, replied cheerily: "Good!"
Yes! All of the above. Wow. Entertainment at its finest.
I think little Jane, after a year of stardom in nursery, suffered from "little fish in big pond" syndrome her first day in primary. Today went much, much better. As intense as some moments with Jane can be, I am moved by her earnest efforts to improve.
I could learn a thing or two.

I laughed so hard at this one! Wouldn't it be great if mothers were blessed with immediate hindsight, then we would just laugh and laugh at every horrifying (at the time)little thing. (Tonight Ellie told me she will not jump on grandma's piano keys ever again.) That Jane is a live one. I love it.
just read it again. tears!
Man, there is a LOT of Wilson in that girl.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!! So wish I had been there! Emma (twice Jane's age) had a little episode last week also. Emma has been feeling like she doesn't have any friends and has teared up a time or two. A new girl moved in one grade younger and showed up at a play date with her best friend Belle. Emma was not happy about that so last Sunday when the new girl walked into primary she loudly said..."We don't like you, you're not our friend. You ruin play dates!" When her mom told me I was crushed. We spent a the next few days in re-training and Emma made her some cupcakes and wrote her an apology note. She was readily forgiven and they are becoming friends. Such drama, but such learning. You are a great mom with a VERY independent thinker on your hands and we love her!
Oh boy! Levi is struggling with the adjustment (along with the 6 other new, equally busy, loud, demanding, fun) Sunbeams. Its hard to be in there while he's making this transition. I feel like I need to take a few weeks off just so he can get used to it. Jane's antics are priceless, you'll be so glad you recorded them...
i'm so glad i am jane's teacher!! and i do miss having malan already! yours and calebs talks were awesome, such a neat heritage you have! love u guys!!
I spat on the computer screen trying to laugh quietly while Casey was on a call in the next room.
It brought to mind that photo of Mom teaching a ring of nursery kids while YOU enthusiastically "helped" another little kid off YOUR chair.
So, you're in Primary, too?
I did sharing time yesterday. It was boring.
As a nursery leader I have to say this is exactly why I was so excited to graduate ten of "my children" into sunbeams this year. I can picture at least half of them doing the same things on their first day :) That Jane has spirit.
I was hoping you'd say all of the above! Gotta love our high-spirited children! Thanks for sharing.
Oh Wow! What a girl!
Oh but that picture of her will just quickly melt all of that away, won't it?!?! She's angelic! What a fun time of life for you as a mom.
I love, love, love the way you write Kate! Funny!
oh it's so good to know there are little lukey cousins out there that are as rambunctious and entertaining as he is. It's WAY more entertaining though to read it from afar than to have to deal with it in the moment...
Well I've had two out of three start and graduate from sunbeams. The first one who shall remain nameless...literally tried to climb out the window or her classroom. The poor teacher who was a man didn't know what to do.
and the second, luckily in a different ward this time. Screamed, got her head stuck in the back of a chair and screamed while her dress flipped up and flashed the primary. Yup, it gets better, but it was slowly in our case. I think it just means you have smart children that are not easily led by others. I choose to believe this is a good thing. While the primary teachers sometimes do not agree.
Hang in there!
Loved it. I was released from Primary Chorister in the nick of time. Talmage was around my thigh or bouncing across the front of the primary room on his chair. One more week and I would have cracked. Jane is the greatest.
I love at times I have the privilege to hide behind the piano and watch Ben. As much as it is hard to be in there, it is nice too, then we know what to focus on.
Jane is unique and so much fun to read about! you will definitely be glad you documented that fun day!
Hilarious! Thank you for the laugh.
That girl was BUSY! Funny, funny stories.
Fine entertainment indeed. We've had a crazy last couple of weeks in Primary with the new Sunbeams, too. And we also enjoy hiding behind the piano and laughing at kids' antics. I think my favorite is the "I am a Child of God."
How inspiring to have you in the primary together! I have never been in primary but saw how maybe 10 different kids did one of those! How hilariousall the entertainment was compliments of Jane. She is so cute! I am glad she had a better day. She is very blessed to have such a patient and grounded mother.
Love and miss ya,
Heidi
I laughed so hard, Kate... I had tears in my eyes and had to read it again. You are a brilliant writer...
