Ready for a Change in the Weather

A record heat wave in the east may be to blame for recent strange behavior at our house.

Yesterday Jane introduced us to her first and brand new imaginary friend, "Smacky." Smacky's parents, coincidentally, are named "Ate" and "Aleb."

A tidbit of one of our conversations...

Me: "Jane, no hitting."
Jane: "It was Smacky."
Me: "Tell Smacky not to hit your sister, please."
Jane: "Smacky won't listen. Smacky is bad."

Smacky, as you can imagine, has been spending a good deal of time on the time-out stair, and Jane has been kind enough to keep him company there.

In other news, Olivia has been bringing me pairs of underwear from the girls dresser multiple times each day and begging for me to put them on her. Ready for potty training? Ha, wouldn't that be nice. But yesterday when I put them on over her diaper she went boneless, bawled, and tried to yank them off. Then I took them off and handed them back to her and she hit herself in the head with them repeatedly. When I got the message, she was very pleased indeed:

This girl refuses to wear her lovely headbands or sun hats for even ten seconds but these beauties lasted all afternoon. Maybe it's genetic.
Even the ever patient Malan reached her limit yesterday. After having several of her pieces of artwork scribbled on by captain underpants, she posted the following notice and refused audience with the offender for several hours:

We could really use a cold front and some rain around here.

Ha ha ha! I love that poster! And very good writing, Malan. How kind of Jane to keep smacky company.

Jake has a naughty little partner in crime. It used to be Thomas as in thomas train. I spanked thomas pretty good one day and Thomas has never come to play with Jake ever since. Jake did not want to end up with the same fate! Love the stories!

Ah, hah, hah! I love it all.
Nice writing, Malan!
Imaginary friends are always so naughty--I love that Jane named him Smacky so his purpose could be clear.
You should buy uglier underwear for your girls--then maybe Olivia wouldn't use them to accessorize. Maybe.

You should call "Ate" and "Aleb" and let them know about the influence their daughter is having on yours.

I love the phrase about Olivia going boneless. That describes those little melty meltdowns perfectly.

I'm laughing, giggling so deeply here in my silly work desk. Oh the thing your girls do! Smacky! Captain Underpants! Oh the comedy!

It's so hot here in The Lone Star State that I can only offer my empathy and keep giggling....

Must be genetic- I seem to remember "Underwear Man" living at our house too. Ask Jane's Daddy about Jason Razzle, Johnson, Ronson and Dooty...

You mean Ronson, Tonson and Dooty

smacky!! that's awesome. that olivia could be wearing underwear on her head and still be a beauty - oh, yep, i was right! is it hard to be her mom cause you get "cute baby syndrome"? That is what Sarah Cresap calls it when your jaw hurts from clenching your teeth together all day from all the cuteness.

Thanks MR ANONYMOUS- my memory is shot. Ronson, Tonson and Dooty were such a part of the family- and let's not forget "Petrie", he was around for a couple of years. Since I also had imaginary friends, Gerta and Kay, it must be in the genes....

Glad you're staying sane, or your insanity is just hilarious! We got some rain here in MI and it was still over 90 degrees. ugh..Cold showers and standing in front of the freezer have been working for us.

Mia had friends named Macha and Jayla Cat, they were nice girls who didn't hit, of course there were no siblings for them to hit at the time...they did how ever have a nasty habit of falling into the floor vents and getting trapped...Love your girls they make me smile
