Back

It's that time again. I dread it a little every year, though I don't tell my girls that. I want them to be excited and nervous and hopeful and all those things a kid should be at the start of a new school year, so I try to keep my motherly pangs to myself as much as possible. I think they may sense it though when I won't end the hugs as the bus pulls up and they have to shrug me off with a "Mom! Mom! I have to go!"

Anyway. . .some pictures from the first few days of school 2012:

School starts EARLY in the a.m. down south.
Long shadows at the bus stop.
Malan proudly displays another hole in her grin on her way to 2nd grade.
Jane and her new expression, the serious half-smile, headed for first grade.
And then the school bus ate my children.
After a good day at school Jane let me take her outside for another picture.

But Malan opted to spend her free time with her favorite boy instead.
I wonder if this ever gets easier. Do you ever question if you're doing the right thing, sending them off like this?
I struggle with giving up control over their experiences.
I worry about what mean things kids might say to bruise their little hearts.
They are great kids, and I am pretty darn sure they'll be fine.
But I love em, and miss em.

Sigh. Excuse me, I need to go talk to a cupcake about this.

Maybe this one:
Tried this recipe and loved it. It helped a little.

I *do* wonder if its the right thing to send them off... I am so surprised how many similarities we have here. Jonas just started 2nd grade with a new hole in his mouth, and Levi started 1st grade (I don't know how I always forget they are all the same age). And HOLY COW! School starts SO early here! I don't know if they even have shadows... :)

Enough about me. Your girls are stunning, as always. Enjoy that time with the littles. :)

Denial. Don't even want to think about it. On the other hand, having a hard time keeping them away from screens lately... Let me know what teachers you get.

Yes I have issues every single year and I always try to find a way to homeschool my kids at least part of the day. But it has never worked out. And in the end they have had some great experiences at public school and have truly enjoyed it.

we start soon and i'm peeing my pants! yikes!!! i think i'll have a panic attack when i see the bus pull up. helps to know that my mum will be there but still... i know what you mean about not showing your true feelings and keeping up the sunny disposition. that will probably be a tough day. cupcakes sound helpful. sigh.... love how huge their backpacks are against their skinny little legs. love kiddos!!!

Remarkably beautiful family. Just wow.
You made me grin when you said the school bus ate your children. I'm so sorry this is so difficult.... I hope the evenings come quickly and those girls are nothing but adored by their classmates.

Dear Cupcake,
Get in my BELLY!
