Fiver

Olivia, our most ardent birthday anticipator, turned 5! Poor dear was on day 7 of a really rough virus and felt awful, but she was a good sport and tried earnestly to enjoy her day.

Breakfast in bed and birthday cards and gifts from the grandmas:

We found the doctor's kit to be appropriate, except Dr. Wilson kept coughing in her patients' faces.

After all that excitement, Olivia went back to bed for the next several hours...
...while Malan and Emme made her birthday cake. (Makers get to lick the bowl.)
More gifts from sisters, aunties, and mom and dad, and the requested chocolate cake with berries:

Time for wish making, cake eating, and present opening:

Sweetest girl, we love how much you look forward to these special days, and we're so sorry you were sick. We're loving your insatiable need for hugs, your passionate insistence that we never miss a reading lesson, and how you glue yourself to dad's side the minute he walks through the door. We love your tender heart and kind, agreeable nature. You are a generous friend, a diligent learner, a loving sister, and a darling little dearie of a daughter.  Happy Birthday.

Birthdays passed here, herehere, and here.

Oh what good sisters making her cake and those cute presents. That is one of my favorite childhood memories is the sister-ness of birthdays. I loved Jane and Malan's homemade ipod and jewelry for little O. So cool. Olivia was a very sick birthday girl but darling as always. And it was almost humorous (in a sad way) how lethargic she was. I love that girl. She is seriously just an angelic, sincere child. Happy FIVE Olivia!!

Wow, her face is changing--she looks like Malan in those last pics.
I wish we could be closer to watch these girls grow up. Good job documenting it for those of us far away.

I have to say, Kate, that your girls b day posts are always a favorite for me. I just completely adore the amazing Mom you are and the way you celebrate their b days. The details you always have for their breakfast, etc. are so beautiful, it makes me want to do fun pretty things like that. I wish I could live next door to you so you could teach me how to make things so beautiful the way you do! Sweet, beautiful pics!
