Ice Skating

Every winter in the park in my sweet home town, some dedicated and super nice folk plow and pack the snow into a flat area and hose it down to make an incredible ice rink. It's surrounded by 100-foot pine trees and you can hear the church bells from our chapel across the street while you skate. I bruised up my knees playing hockey and figure skating there every winter growing up. How I wish I could take my kids there!

As soon as school got out for Christmas break, we did the next best thing: skating at our awesome Memphis Zoo. The weather was perfect while we walked through the zoo, then once we made it inside, a classic Memphis rain storm hit, water was pouring down the windows, and thunder was shaking the whole room. But we were snug and safe and it broke up right when it was time to leave. There were color changing lights and fun Christmas music was playing.  The oldest three were able to totally manage on their own this year, which was so fun! And by next year, Emme should be right there with them. We really had a wonderful time and are so glad there was a place available for us to keep up this tradition.

Oscar entertained himself while we took turns skating by exploring the skate lockers and opening and closing them repeatedly. I'm grateful he's quite easily entertained. What a good dude.

Thank you, Zoo, for giving us a great afternoon of skating. We loved it!

Oh this looks so magical and fun. How great that most of your kids can ice skate. And osky IS so good at exploring and entertaining himself. I love when he comes over because I feel like our house is Disneyland for him cause we've got pots and pans and little doors to open. We have it all. Love these pics!
