I am an Anarchist

That's right. I took Malan out of preschool again this year. The preschool director sternly informed me I would be putting my daughter's future success in jeopardy. "I am afraid your daughter will: 1-never learn to read 2-be a social outcast 3-lead a life of crime 4-ruin America for children everywhere," she told me. In essence.

I said, "I don't think so." I am such a rebel.

So I get 9 more months of my Malan all to myself. We spent the morning together creating fine art at the children's museum.

Next we stopped by our favorite cupcake shop where we practiced socially acceptable food-consumption behaviors:
The evening was spent Christmas garden-gazing and crawling under barrier ropes to get a closer look. . .

. . .then ice skating in the city until way past bedtime, cuz hey, no school tomorrow!
Just look at us sticking it to the man.
Best decision ever.

i believe as a mom you know what's best for your kiddos, despite what others say. way to go mom.

I have no worries about Malan's future. Glad you get to enjoy her more.
I wish there were a cupcake shop near here. That way I wouldn't be compelled to make my own and eat 5 of them. Ugh.
As always, beautiful photos.

Oh how cheery and fun! Did you read that Helicopter Parenting article, too? Looks like you are having a wonderful, Christmasy time. Now I've gotta go get some itty bitty ice scates.

Yeah! That's what I'm talkin about. I did the same with Ems and we (and you and Malan) got to enjoy her the whole time. What's more important...hanging with the kiddies!

I did the same thing with Cole and they gave me the same guilt trip. They just didn't want to lose the tuition money. Best decision ever for us too. Cole learned SO much more at home and I got some precious months with him before Trace was born and he became even more of a middle child. He's top in behavior and acadamics in his classes. And kids who are kept home longer are so much more excited to go to school and be independent once it is time. I've watched all the kids who have been in preschool for 3 years cry every morning for the first semester of kindergarten.
Pittsburg looks awesome.

I can't wait to hear about how Malan single-handedly ruins America. Looks like a fun evening. Tell me about the bandaid on Jane's head.

Does the preschool director know that Malan has been reading to some extent for a while now?...

Loving Jane's pig tails and Olivia in her adorable hat.

Oh wow, I would love to hear more of the story about removing Malen from school. The nerve of that Woman to tell you that you didn't know what was best for your child.

I love all the pictures. Again, you really are so talented.

Cupcakes are so totally socially acceptable. I learned many a fine, admirable thing dining on cupcakes. Sounds like a lovely day. Way to stick it to the man.

I LOVE that they're wearing little skirts to skate in ~ absolutely dreamy!!! Love the picts! I kind of like the idea of homeschooling at that age.

I'm happy for your freedom. There's only so much scheduling that a family can endure.

I have actually been wondering if Malan was in school or not. Will she do kindergarten next year? I do preschool with my kiddos at home and absolutely love it!
You are a wonderful mom and a wonderful example. seriously.

You go girl! I heard that Sister Hinckley informed her children's teachers that they would not be completing homework. When they were home, they were hers.

Kate, these pictures are absolutely beautiful! I love the shots you capture of your girls.

And I'm pretty sure your girls will be smart and talented, just like their Momma!

Best advice yet from my pediatrician, "I can tell you the average behavior and health of kids nationwide but YOU are the expert on your children." A heavy responsibility but rewarding in a way nothing else can compare with.
