Some intense face-gazing. Nice. I think I was trying to be funny and I love that Caleb is like, "Ok. This is what we're doing." He is a good sport.
Katie did such a great job manning the camera, and we got some we really love (which will be forthcoming), but MAN, what a process. The only thing we've found that helps is serious bribery. How about you? Any secrets to taking a good family picture?

My brother Sean is the only thing that gets my kids to smile... he is officially the "funny uncle." Too bad he's not for hire. :) But I'm certain you got some really great shots just looking at the outtakes. You all look gorgeous!
Bribery is great for everyone but Casey. I don't know how I'm gonna get him in the family pic this year.
Love these. My kids are famous for the forced toothy smile. Lovely. I have no suggestions for you. It looks like you did great. :)
Thank you for taking family photos! I will steal these for the family calendar!
A huge sense of humor..remember Xander and the rubber chicken?
Kate, please come and be my personal fashion consultant. I LOVE your skirt, your shirt, your whole YOU! Even the out takes are darling. love it all. I have no advice, other than singing the hokie pokie to Liv seems to do the trick every. time. try that? ;)
oh. also. (in all your spare time) will you please send me some dress shop websites that you maybe frequent/like/browse? I'm looking for a couple of dresses for some very special occasions headed our way (finalization, temple sealing...kind of big deals). i've been stressing out about it. i'm calling on your fashion consulting skills before we've even signed a contract. i KNOW. i am that person.
I just read your last 4 posts and just sighed with delight, happiness and a big smile!
You! You are so beautiful.. these outtakes are so much fun. I love seeing your girls between takes- the funny faces, the conversation, the observations. I tell ya, I almost started slow clapping for the 'real' photo on FB. I haven't logged on there in weeks and that was the only thing worth a hill'a'beans on there!
Happy Holidays, love. No really.. may your holidays be happy and may any troubles the come your way be solved in record time. Merry Christmas!
Love,
R~
Even those outtakes are priceless!
My trick to having a good family photo is only having one kid. HA! I don't know how people do it with more.
In all seriousness, though, I always tell the photographer that I don't need Aspen to smile for photos. I'm fine with her candid faces since they're the ones I see every day in real life.
Hooray for the empty lot across the street. So I would love to have a math wiz figure the probability of 4 kids smiling at the same time when each kid is only smiling about 1/20th of the time. It's a miracle you ended up with such a great shot without any digital head switching. Great pics.
Is the probability 1/160,000?
It is something that I might get the nerves to do in five years. It truly strikes fear into my heart. Your pics look great!
Whoa. It's getting harder and harder to prove I'm not a robot. I think it was merciful and let me pass.
I have been seriously depressed the last couple days about my attempt at family pics - I have managed to do 25 photo shoots in the last 3 months and captured beautiful shots that I really love of all of THOSE families, but mine, ya right! Such a joke trying to get good pics of your own kids! When I do shoots of other families I always take treats to bribe the kids and it works like a charm for the most part. But my own kids, well let's just say my Christmas cards wont be my favorite this year, some one else who's pictures I took will be! Can't wait to see yours! You've got my address, right?
I'm with Shannon. We need a thorough post about where you find your darling wardrobe. Pretty please?
