Blogiversary

Smart sciencey people say that the mere observation of an experiment changes it. And non-smart/sciencey I can see that the documenting of our lives in this little blog space has changed us. I've noticed more often the sweetness in our monotonous daily doings. I've tried to improve my scanty photography capabilities in order to try to better capture what I see in our life. And when I re-read what I've written, I remember. Tender moments, hard lessons, poignant insights, downright familial hilarity. Many of these memories are feelings I felt while I experienced the event and wrote about it and are not even obvious in the text. But I feel them again when I read it and I remember, and I learn from them, and it makes me better. And I think, if nothing else, the kids will get a kick out of all this when they care to read it.

So even though blogging is clearly the old (insert latest social media project), I plan to persist.
I also still buy actual books, call me crazy.

This month, blog and I have been together 6 long years. Though we don't usually exchange gifts or even take notice, really, I feel like celebrating! And I feel like saying thank you, faithful readers, for following along, and for your kind/insightful/helpful/hilarious comments through the years. You are just the best.

Don't want to leave you without one little gem today. Can you guess what we are working on at our house right now?
Tell me you'll still be my friend even though I sometimes let my kids do gross things because they are funny.
And tell me potty training plus simultaneous binky annihilation is going to work. I need a pep talk.

Thanks friends. You mean s'dang much to me.

Hi Kate. Im jealous that Emmie is already potty training. Ricky is so stubborn that he refuses do it all the way and he turns 4 in June. I hate potty training too. It always means that you will have poop somewhere it was never inteded to be like walls, chairs, fingers. Ugh! As for binky anihalation try what we did for both boys. We cut the tip off of every binky in the house and then gave them back to the kids. they were allowed to still have their binky and rejected it on their own. I think it took about 1 week for the kids to find them all and just give up.

Good luck! Potty training is not my favorite... ugh. As far as binky goes, no help, sorry. We had a couple thumb suckers and no binkies. Again, good luck! I love this post and I'm so glad that you are sticking with blogging. I, too, remain persistent. Although its been less frequent lately, I still love it and I love looking back. So do my kids. They get a big kick out of it.

I'm thrilled every time you blog. There have been some real gems. May I remind about the court seen with Jane singing in the bathroom and the pudgy jogger was also one of my favorites! Blogs is the deepest of the social networks, FB, Twitter, instagram and pintarest are progressinvely shallower. That's why I save my personal stuff for the blog. Love you!

Congrats on 6 years. And good luck in the toddler training. It is hard work.

Good luck, Kate! I hear clipping the tip of the binki helps them be less appealing. I just used the "scream it out for 2 days" method with my oldest. I won't be winning mother of the year for that one. I hope it goes well!!!

6 years?!? That went by fast.

Considering that taxidermy is very "in" right now, I would totally buy an Emme head in a toliet seat. Not the real one, obviously...

Love you all!

Hurray for blogs! Especially one mango tree! I'm super excited to relive some of your gems! And to be entered for a major award! You are fun. Love emme's potty seat-it frames her face so nicely.

Love your blog and love you! Hope I win something again. Alex's hair is still too thin for those adorable bows.

Oh man I am feeling your pain...we just got rid of the bottle and are starting the potty training soon...not excited...not enough energy lately. Hopefully, things will go smoothly!

Meh. She's building up her immune system is what I say (though, this is typed with one hand as a sick Ethan snore/wheezes on my shoulder, so who am I to talk?).

Can't you stop that little cutie from getting so big? Happy Blogiversary to you! I love reading your little updates, it doesn't make me miss you any less, but it helps a little to still be in the know. Give those sweet little chickens hugs for all of us.

I love your blog. It is easy to remain a faithful reader. My pediatrician always said, "I promise they won't go to high school in diapers.". He was right. Good luck!

ooh, i like the binky fairy idea! maybe we'll cut the tips first and then have her donate them for presents. :)

Happy Blogiversary to you! I'm so glad you started blogging. This is the only way I've gotten to know you better and you are a delightful person. I have so many favorites over the years. A few that come to mind are this hamster one, the shopping cart one, and the parking ticket one. What I love about your blog is that you are able to write personal things, thought-provoking things, and hilarious things. My blog is a one-trick pony. I need to diversify probably. But anyway, not only do you write from many angles, but you write very very well. And your photos are gorgeous! Keep it up!

I second the gorgeous photo comment. How did I miss this post yesterday? Oh yeah, I had 5 Robbins kids over for six hours. Did you hear they are moving? Did you know them? It's really sad when people move away, don't you think.
I am so glad that you started this blog. It's so great to hear from you.

Good teaching. "Always plug your mouth before diving into a potty seat."
Meanie face is one of my faves.

Happy Blogiversary! It's amazing how fast the time passes, and it is oh, so precious to look back on posts and feel those feelings all over again when you reread your own words. Congrats on sticking with it for all this time! (We/I plan to stick with it, too, though as you know, we occasionally have *LONG* periods without any new posts.)

Good luck with potty training and binky annihilation! We kind of let Zach tell us when it was time for potty training and we eventually just let the binkies break on their own, until the last two; on different days, he managed to drop each one in the toilet (while he was using said toilet); he was instructed to dispose of each one as that happened. Then they were gone! He asked about it for a day or two after that, but has been really good ever since that point. (We are lucky!) -- I think having him throw them away helped. Then he had a very clear association to what happened to them. Good luck!

I'm excited to read on the other posts that have been posted at this look back in time! We talk about you & your family several times a week and miss you all so very much. I hope you are getting ready to enjoy some outdoor time as the weather gives hints that it wants to get nice! We enjoyed some time outside yesterday; sadly, no pictures were taken, but we'll try to post about it anyway. :-)

Take care!
